Discover Botswana’s Untamed Wilderness

Botswana is widely considered one of Africa’s most exclusive and pristine safari destinations—perfect if you’re after raw wilderness, low crowds, and exceptional wildlife encounters.

Botswana’s landscapes are incredibly diverse and largely untouched. The jewel is the Okavango Delta—a UNESCO World Heritage Site where seasonal floodwaters transform the desert into a lush oasis.

You can go days without encountering another safari vehicle, giving you the feeling of having this extraordinary wilderness all to yourself.
The Okavango Delta delivers that gentle mix of water, predators and silence that feels otherworldly.

Botswana is also home to Africa’s largest elephant population, with estimates ranging from 60,000 to 120,000.

For Botswana, the Okavango Delta should be your focus if you want that unmistakable water-meets-wildlife experience — drifting through lily-filled channels by mokoro and watching elephants, hippos and antelope in a setting you won’t find anywhere else.

To balance the Delta’s wetlands, pair it with Moremi or Selinda for contrasting landscapes.  Moremi blends waterways with dry woodland for strong predator viewing, while Selinda offers wide, open plains and private-reserve exclusivity.

Further north, Chobe and Linyanti deliver Africa’s greatest dryseason elephant concentrations. Chobe is known for its dramatic riverfront gatherings, and Linyanti offers the same wildlife drama with the added benefit of far fewer vehicles.

Other standout regions include:

  • Chobe National Park – famous for massive elephant herds
  • Moremi Game Reserve – a mix of wetlands and savannah
  • Makgadikgadi Salt Pans – surreal, lunar-like scenery

Best Time to Visit

  • May – October (Dry Season): Best for wildlife viewing
  • November – April (Green Season): Lush scenery, great for birding, fewer crowds

Interestingly, the Okavango Delta floods during the dry season, creating peak safari conditions.
