What to Expect
Camp Moremi is located in one of the busier regions of the reserve for two good reasons: it’s beautiful (especially on and around the nearby Xakanaxa lagoon), and the game viewing is fantastic. The downside is that you have to share – a few other camps as well as self-drive tourists also have access to this area. But the camp itself is a private refuge, a world away from the buzz. It offers friendly, efficient and personalised service and is both spacious and comfortable.
Highlights
There are 12 Meru-style tents, including one family unit, each built on raised teak decks. Each has it’s own en-suite bathroom with a shower, flush toilet and vanity area. Large woven mats give the bedrooms a homely feel, and the four-poster beds, draped with mosquito nets, add a touch of elegance. The rooms extend onto their own small private decks, surrounded by a woodland of mopane, jackalberries and sycamore figs, where you can sit and enjoy the views and the birdlife in the canopy around you.
Because of its location within Moremi Game Reserve, Camp Moremi’s activities must abide by park regulations. The morning and afternoon game drives can be quite productive – diverse habitats in this region are home to a wide array of predators and antelope species, as well as large herds of buffalo and elephant – but are limited to daylight hours. There’s also a high chance of seeing a few other vehicles which does diminish the sense of exclusivity a bit. You can also get out on a boat – a great way to explore the lagoon and get up close to its creatures, especially some spectacular waterfowl.
