What to Expect
Since its opening in 2015, the Strand Hotel has been making some serious waves. Situated right on the peninsula in Swakopmund, where the Namib dunes melt into the Atlantic, the hotel’s location is hard to beat. And the decor … it’s like a trendy metropolitan hotel combined with a light and breezy seaside ambiance. Did we mention there’s a brewery on site? You’ll find locally crafted beer, effervescent sunsets, a lovely spa and seafood by the boatload at this sparkling Swakopmund gem.
Swakopmund is a coastal city and popular beach resort in the Namib desert. The influence of Swakopmund’s German colonial history lingers in the architecture and overall “Gemütlichkeit” of the town.
Highlights
Take your pick from the standard or luxury rooms and a range of suites. The air-conditioned guest rooms all have a contemporary design, crisp white linen with cosy touches and an en-suite bathroom. Other amenities include complimentary WiFi, a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee station and a well-stocked mini bar. Garden or sea views are available, but we strongly recommend the latter, especially if its the Presidential Suite with its panoramic terrace, a walk-in dressing room and stylish entertainment area.
You may just want to spend the day on the beach, enjoying the sunshine, fresh sea air and nature’s swimming pool (the Strand doesn’t have one of its own). It’s right on your doorstep after all. But if you want to do some exploring, take a relaxed stroll along the promenade and jetty, visit the local museum that has excellent displays of local flora and fauna or venture through town, which has some fine colonial buildings. That said, there are eco and adrenaline activities aplenty. You can book these through the hotel and include the likes of desert tours, ballooning, skydiving, horse riding and more. For marine adventures there are bird watching tours, dolphin and seal tours.
