Visit the Kafue National Park in depth, travelling from the southern Nanzhila Lake Camp to the northern Busanga Plains and the great diverse wilderness in between. You will experience real remoteness, breath-taking river landscapes and encounter wildlife undisturbed. This fully inclusive 9-night holiday package allows you to experience three beautiful, yet vastly different, areas of the Kafue, staying in Kasonso Busanga Camp, KaingU Safari Lodge and Nanzhila Lake Camp.

Nanzhila Lake Camp

Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is situated in the remote southern section of the Kafue National Park, on the edge of a large Dambo (seasonal floodplain) amongst Jackelberry and Sausage trees.

The camp has a large thatched lounge and dining area on an elevated teak deck. It has 4 chalets and 2 meru tents which are all spacious and en-suite with hot and cold running water. Room amenities include private bathrooms with hot showers, coffee/tea making facilities, mosquito nets, sofa/lounge chairs and writing desk.

The Kafue is one of the last true wilderness areas. Covering 22,440km², its unmatched variety of species and being able to enjoy the wildlife almost on your own, makes this park one of the last secrets of Africa. This is a place to unwind, enjoy our chefs’ cuisine and be spoiled with an abundance of activities or, if you prefer, just relax and feel the heartbeat of Africa.

Our Lodge is situated in the Namwala Game Management Area (GMA) on a spectacular and remote stretch of the Kafue River, approximately 400 kilometres north of the majestic Victoria Falls. The Kafue National Park, just opposite the lodge and only a 10-minute boat trip away, offers magnificent game that you can enjoy viewing from our comfortable open game drive vehicles.

Kasonso is an authentic bush camp that provides all the important fundamentals of a comfortable camp but focuses on the outstanding guiding and wildlife experience. There are 4 tents, each with ensuite bathrooms and verandahs overlooking the plains. In the central boma area, you’ll find a comfortable seating area, bar and and outside deck which you can use at your leisure.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Kafue National Park—and enjoy this specific safari at its absolute best—is during the dry season from June to October.

Dry Season (June – October) — Best Overall

This is when the park truly comes alive:

  • Wildlife gathers around rivers and waterholes, making sightings far easier
  • The Busanga Plains floodwaters recede, creating vast open grasslands ideal for predator action
  • Cooler temperatures (especially June–August) make activities more comfortable
  • Excellent conditions for game drives, walking safaris, and photography

Peak months: July to October (best game viewing, especially predators)
