What to Expect

Nestled within the breathtaking expanse of the NamibRand Nature Reserve, Wolwedans Dune Camp offers an intimate and authentic desert retreat surrounded by towering red dunes and endless horizons. This elegant yet understated camp forms part of the privately owned Wolwedans Collection, renowned for its exceptional hospitality, exclusivity, and commitment to preserving the pristine wilderness that defines the region.

Far removed from the crowds of neighbouring parks, guests are treated to a truly immersive desert experience where tranquillity and privacy take centre stage. Days can be spent exploring the dramatic landscapes on guided nature drives, horseback excursions, or unforgettable hot-air balloon safaris that reveal the vast beauty of the Namib from above. As the sun sets, enjoy refreshing sundowners in spectacular locations before gazing at some of the clearest night skies in Africa.

Combining understated luxury with extraordinary natural surroundings, Wolwedans Dune Camp provides a rare opportunity to connect with one of the world’s most remarkable desert environments while enjoying personalised service and unforgettable experiences.

Highlights

The 6 room tents are pitched on wooden platforms and are comfortable and spacious, including an indoor and outdoor bathroom. A generous deck outside the room allows for safe sleep-outs under the stars, and each has a “Wolwedans Chiller”, a small water-filled silo to cool off in.  At the family suite, a short walk away from the main camp, there are two en-suite bedrooms, each with a children’s sala with single beds, sharing the bathroom with adults. The suite has a main lounge & spacious deck, with two ‘Wolwedans Chillers’ outside the bedrooms. Meals are enjoyed at main Dune Camp, but the suite has a private guide & vehicle.

Activities are suitably focussed on the astonishing landscapes. Gentle drives on the private reserve reveal a variety of desert wildlife, including gemsbok, springbok, zebra and black-backed jackals. Other ways to enjoy the desert include hot air ballooning, horse-riding and e-biking up along the sandy trails, whilst evenings are usually spent atop a dune, sundowner in hand. The Wolwedans Eco-Village, the headquarters of the operation, is a fascinating insight into life in the desert (where does the water come from?!) and visits can easily be arranged.
