Mobile camps are the best way to get really close to the game (Chobe under Canvas changes site every five or six days), and little compares with the awe-inspiring experience of falling asleep to the nocturnal desert chorus. The tented main area is shady, with seating for relaxing during the day and a dining area with large tables and directors’ chairs. All meals are prepared over the ever-burning fire, even the cakes for teatime. The food options are limited, but what is served is fresh and flavourful, and there’s plenty of it. Pre-dinner snacks and drinks are served around the fire, and mealtimes are laid-back and sociable.
