What to Expect
Experience &Beyond Chobe Under Canvas in northern Botswana. A mobile safari camp combining adventure, comfort and wildlife encounters along the Chobe River.
Mobile camps are the best way to get really close to the game (Chobe under Canvas changes site every five or six days), and little compares with the awe-inspiring experience of falling asleep to the nocturnal desert chorus. Prepare yourself for amazing up-close game-viewing, staff whose light-hearted attitude is combined with an excellent knowledge of the area and its animals and birds, and luxury accommodation.
The tented main area is shady, with seating for relaxing during the day and a dining area with large tables and directors’ chairs. All meals are prepared over the ever-burning fire, even the cakes for teatime. The food options are limited, but what is served is fresh and flavourful, and there’s plenty of it. Pre-dinner snacks and drinks are served around the fire, and mealtimes are laid-back and sociable.
Highlights
There are forty-four rooms in total, made up of 22 Standard Rooms, 12 Interleading Rooms, 4 Triple Rooms, 1 Family Room, 3 Family Suites and 1 Honeymoon Suite. Each room has a patio with views of the river, (though some are better appointed than others), and is equipped with the modern accoutrements one would find in a hotel: air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, internal phone service, wi-fi, plug points, a hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar. The suites are larger, with a separate lounge and a balcony with a plunge pool. Two of the suites have convenient inter-leading gateways, accessed from the terrace, allowing a group to occupy a suite and a standard room – a great option for families with children, or couples travelling together.
Owing to the location of Chobe Game Lodge inside the Chobe National Park, early-morning game drives set off as soon as the park opens, giving you the best chance of tracking predators while they are still active. The afternoon drives depart the lodge in the late afternoon (the exact time is dependent on the season), only returning at park closure time after sunset, thus maximising the time you spend out in the park to enjoy those special sightings.
No Chobe safari is complete without experiencing the beauty of the Chobe River and its incredible wildlife by boat.
