What to Expect
Set slightly back from the edge of Lake Kariba and shaded by mopane woodland, the main area at Changa Safari Camp is relaxed and understated. The open lounge features simple yet comfortable leather seating on polished concrete floors, accented with colourful tiles that add a touch of character.
The dining area is equally unfussy, centred around beautiful wooden tables where brunch is typically served. As the day winds down, tea and dinner are usually enjoyed on the lower deck or out on the beach beside the fire pit—both offering a warm atmosphere and sweeping views across the lake. The open-sided bar is functional, but most guests prefer to unwind beside the circular plunge pool, soaking in the scenery with a drink in hand.
Highlights
The camp’s eight tented chalets are spacious, elegant, and thoughtfully designed to blend comfort with nature. Two of the chalets are ideal for families, featuring adjoining children’s rooms connected to the main bedroom.
Floor-to-ceiling mesh windows, softened by flowing linen curtains, create a light and airy feel while keeping you immersed in the surrounding landscape. Each ensuite bathroom is positioned to maximise lake views, while an additional outdoor bathroom—complete with shower and bathtub—is playfully finished with bright tiles.
Every chalet also features a private deck, furnished with camp chairs and a hammock, offering a peaceful spot to relax beneath the trees.
Water-based experiences are at the heart of Changa Safari Camp. Boat safaris on Lake Kariba provide excellent opportunities to spot hippos, crocodiles, and elephants, as well as an abundance of birdlife including fish eagles, herons, and shoreline species.
Fishing enthusiasts can try their hand at catching the lake’s famous tiger fish, along with bream and catfish, while a visit to the dramatic Sanyati Gorge offers striking scenery.
On land, guests can enjoy guided game drives and immersive bush walks, often combined for a more dynamic experience. With expert guides leading the way, you may even step off the vehicle to follow fresh tracks when conditions allow—adding an extra layer of excitement to your safari.
