What to Expect
A new, super-luxury addition to Namibia’s lodge scene, Sorris Sorris ticks all the boxes for a truly fantastic stay in Damaraland. The distinctly modern design and crisp lines of the lodge offer a stylish retreat in the rugged mountain terrain, and nine block-like suites have seemingly endless views over the red plains to the impressive Brandberg Massif in the distance. Damaraland is one of the few regions where it’s possible to spot the elusive desert elephant and Sorris Sorris offers the chance to search for them while soaking up the immense sense of space and solitude in this arid wilderness.
Highlights
Each of the nine double or twin suites has an unusual block-like appearance from the outside, with a Scandinavian feel and angular lines. Inside, pale timbers and desert-inspired neutral tones echo the sense of space, with expansive views across the plains. Beds are on raised wooden platforms facing out onto a small terrace. Open-plan bathrooms have frosted sliding doors which open out onto a private outdoor paved area. The enormous honeymoon suite has a separate lounge and huge private deck.
Activities focus on exploring the stunning landscapes and searching for the elusive desert elephants. Guided walks and drives along the (usually dry) Ugab River are also available, as are forays all the way out to the Brandberg Massif to see the ancient rock paintings. Rock climbing is a great way to get some exercise and discover some of the region’s unique desert-adapted creatures or treat yourself to a hot air balloon safari – a remarkable way to take in this wild landscape.
