What to Expect
Located in the wilderness area of the award-wining Ol Pejeta Conservancy; a 30 minute flight or 4 hour drive from Nairobi. The conservancy is internationally recognised for its proactive and innovative approach to conservation and is home to an impressive array and abundance of wildlife including the Big Five and the last two remaining Northern White Rhinos in existence.
The cottages are completely independent, but come with a full complement of staff including an on-site manager, a private chef, housekeeper and waiter. They’re on hand to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, from preparing meals and picnics to lighting the fires each evening to welcome you home from a late game drive. Night and day, guards patrol the electric fence that surrounds the property.
Highlights
There are just three cottages, each sleeping four people in two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. There’s a central open-plan lounge and dining area, and a large fireplace for cosy evenings. Each unit has a fully equipped external kitchen and comes with its own chef and waiter, should you need their services. All the rooms open on to a veranda that stretches the length of the cottage and is perfect for resting and gazing at the river and the wilderness.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy covers 36,400 hectares of bush straddling the equator between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare mountains. This is East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary, and you’ll also see elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard and some rarer northern species – Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, Beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe. Visit the rescued chimps at Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary and the Endangered Species Boma, home to the world’s last remaining northern white rhino. Or spend a morning at the charming local school.
