Islands of Siankaba Lodge

Upstream from Victoria Falls, and is accessed by road from the Zambian side of the river.

With over 25 years of experience, we have built a reputation as a trusted partner for authentic, life-changing journeys across the African continent.

Islands of Siankaba Lodge

Siankaba is more of a hidden wilderness retreat than a classic Victoria Falls lodge. Tucked away along a secluded stretch of the Zambezi River, around 40km from the Victoria Falls, this hidden gem offers the perfect escape for those seeking privacy without losing that authentic African feel.

Reaching Islands of Siankaba is part of the adventure. From the main road, a 7km dirt track winds through open bushveld to the lodge’s reception and charming curio shop. From there, a short five-minute boat transfer carries you across the Zambezi to the main island, where a raised wooden walkway leads up to the beautifully styled main lodge.

Main Lodge & Shared Spaces

At the heart of the island, the main lodge features an inviting bar and dining area where guests enjoy exceptional meals. Nearby, a cosy lounge is filled with plush sofas and armchairs in rich greens, warm oranges, and deep reds—echoing the tones of an African autumn. A small library and selection of board games add to the relaxed, homely atmosphere.

Out front, a spacious terrace offers a variety of seating options beneath shady trees or in the sun. Whether you prefer a wooden table, a bench, or a sunlounger, it’s an ideal place to unwind. A circular, cushion-lined bench surrounds the firepit, perfectly positioned for sunset drinks overlooking the Zambezi.

A short walk away, guests will find a secluded swimming pool with loungers, along with a small spa offering a range of treatments, including massages, facials, and manicures (at an additional cost). For added indulgence, many treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of your chalet deck, overlooking the river.

Suites & Accommodation

Spread along the edge of the second island, seven elegant suites are thoughtfully positioned for maximum privacy. Surrounded by lush vegetation, each chalet feels wonderfully secluded, with only the sounds of birdlife, insects, and distant river rapids breaking the silence.

The chalets are raised 2–3 metres above ground and feature private balconies with comfortable seating and uninterrupted river views. While the exteriors reflect a classic safari style with canvas elements, the interiors offer refined comfort—polished teak floors and furniture, layered rugs, and soft ambient lighting create a warm, luxurious feel.

Each suite includes either twin or double beds with electric blankets, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, and well-placed reading lights. Additional amenities include a mini-fridge, a safe, and a tea and coffee station—though the attentive team is always on hand to deliver fresh beverages with your morning wake-up call.

Activities & Experiences

Located around 50 minutes from Victoria Falls, a visit to the Falls is included in your stay. However, due to the distance, the lodge is best suited to guests staying three nights or more, allowing time to fully enjoy its tranquil setting and activities.

Experiences focus on the river and surrounding islands, including sunset cruises, guided birding and nature walks, and a scenic 1.5km trail. Cultural visits to nearby villages offer meaningful insight into local life, while more active guests can explore by bicycle—some featuring unique bamboo frames.

A highlight for many is visiting the local nursery school during term time, or returning to the lodge by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) along the Zambezi. Seasonal catch-and-release fishing is also available for those keen to try their hand.
